Gary's inspiration for the program took shape at 15 in Seattle,
Washington. Under the tutelage of former CWU star Robert
Williams, he entered an individualized basketball program that focused
on the specifics of scoring, defense, ball handling and becoming a
"complete" player. This program stimulated him both physically and
mentally and proved to be the underlying factor in his future success.
At the age of 17, Gary was named:
-
1st Team All-Conference
-
1st Team
All-State, MVP of the State
-
Washington Prep Player of the Year &
Honorable Mention All-American.
Those accomplishments culminated in
the opportunity to lead his team to the Washington State championship.
Gary was granted an NCAA Division 1 scholarship with the University of
Washington, where he was a starter & contributor for the 1983-84 &
1984-85 Pac-Ten champions. |
